I've been thinking a lot about how the small things in life can really add up and what it is that really makes us happy and I don't know about you but I find this time of year great as I am much more content and fulfilled just by being able to go out in the garden and appreciate what's growing out there.
I've just had a wander round the garden with a cup of tea and taken in all the beautiful plants and flowers that are flourishing and how lovely it is to be able to appreciate the beauty that nature creates just outside my back door. I know I am very lucky.
I've also been thinking about the little things that can enhance our summer living and I'm really loving the St Eval scented candles that I stock. To be honest they have been flying off my stall at fairs and markets so they are being appreciated by lots of lovely customers too! I'm not surprised, they are amazing quality and the fragrances are just fab. Obviously I stock the ones I love (good excuse to try them out at home!) but I've just ordered some new fragrances to try: Pure Peony and Tranquility which a lavender and orange combination, which I must admit I am getting excited about that one, I think it will be a hit! They will be in the shop soon. (and making my office smell amazing too!)
I'll be running a summer promotion on certain lines and the candles will be a part of that so look out for that....coming soon!
The veg that I'm growing is getting thrown into just about every meal at the moment as we have a lot of broad beans and now the peas are coming on too and should be ready to eat in the next week. There are loads of tomatoes in the greenhouse but with so little sun recently, not yet ripe, so fingers crossed for more sunny days as I want to eat tomatoes!
I've found some great summer salad recipes to use beans and peas amongst other things and have pinned them to my Pinterest Board 'Summer Recipes' (click here), I'll be trying more of these in the coming weeks, if you try any of them let me know in the comments how they turn out.
I'm also looking forward to doing more entertaining and I already have one lunch arranged for the girls later this month. With vegetarians coming that should be a good excuse to try out those lovely salad recipes and hopefully to sit in the garden to eat. There will be wine and Pimms and a fruit dessert which is the perfect summer lunch if you ask me. Probably coffee too from my lovely new coffee machine given to me last week (if you follow me on Facebook you'll know that I'm slightly obsessed with it! (Click here for the Tiddler & Fox page)
We are all pitching in and contributing something which is a lovely way to produce a feast without one person having to slave away all morning, I'm producing the main course and friends are bringing drinks and dessert.
That's what summer is all about, bringing people together over food, there is nothing better and such a relatively small thing in the grand scheme of life but one that can make a huge difference to your day and one that is easy to do.
What is summer all about for you? Drop me a line and let me know.
